Positive Image

Started through an organic collaboration between Nicole Manzer and Alicia Lumsden. Connecting over their similar mindsets and business models; positive team and salon culture, running alongside a drive for environmental and social enterprises. It wasn’t long before their entrepreneur minds started creating rooms on Clubhouse and Facebook, connecting and creating for hairdressers and salon owners.

Together they have 21 years of salon ownership and almost 40 years of hairdressing experience. Manzer Salons excelled throughout the pandemic with record retail sales. And Queen’s Salon team was grown to allow Alicia to step away from the chair and focus on the business side. Both have a passion for the numbers and metrics. They have proven to be able to develop salons with a positive culture in sustainable spaces. Both have been supporting and training new hairstylists since the beginning of their career and continue this process with mentoring their team and other hairstylists and salon owners.

Alicia Lumsden

After starting her career in film & fashion, as a freelance makeup artist and wardrobe stylist, Alicia decided to pursue hairdressing in 2006. Mentored by the late John Steinberg. And finally opening her own Sustainable and Community focused salon, Queen’s Shop - Fine Hairdressing, in early 2015. Alicia and Queen’s has been published in Salon Magazine twice and Fashion Forward Magazine, been on Calling all Vegans and is known as a go to for sustainable salons in Toronto. She was selected as one of the faces for Green Circle Salons, representing the sustainable movement within the salon industry. Alicia is known for being a caring and compassionate human, looking to change the industry & world through connection and knowledge. She believes we can all achieve more by encouraging community and collaboration amongst hairstylists and salons. After training her team and colleagues for several years, Alicia is now in the midst of becoming a Davines Educator, alongside business & technical classes and offering a Mentoring program. Alicia has a way of making others feel that they can achieve anything while laying out the plan of exactly how they can get there. Her patience and calm nature opens space for genuine conversations.

Nicole Manzer

Nicole believes that education is the most important part of being a great stylist. She is committed to lifelong learning so she can constantly innovate and improve for her clients. She has years of experience as an educator, working for the Joico education team, teaching stylists across the city about hair colour techniques and teaching cosmetology to grade 10 and 11 students and currently training apprentices within her own salon from no knowledge to fully licensed stylists. Nicole has been working in salons since her teens and quickly moved from part-time assistant to apprentice to salon manager before starting her own salon in 2008.

With over 20 years of working behind the chair and 14 years salon owner, Nicole decided to change direction within the beauty industry.  She is a Khan Method certified coach and has ambitions to make the beauty industry better by coaching and mentoring salon owners and stylists on how to unlock their full potential. Stylists, salons and business owners will benefit by learning how to expand their clientele, maximize profits and to minimize downtime by using my proven techniques. Furthermore she focuses on self image, communication, goal setting, mindset, the client experience and consultations for new salon owners/wanting to open or who have a new space.

*This is the 2nd class of 4 Mastermind Classes - it's not necessary to attend all, though we recommend it.
